SUKOSAN
Just around the corner
Sukosan is a small town as well as a harbor, located in the spacious bay of Zlatna luka, only 10km fto the south-east of Zadar. The population is involved in agriculture, vine growing, olive growing and tourism. Tourism started developing during the 1920; the first tourists were German and Czechs. You can visit the church of St. Kasijan (parish church located in a small village, a building with romantic and baroque details), St. Martin church (a romantic building, located on the area of Kastelin, first mentioned in 1387), diocese summer house “Palac” (built on an artificial island in the middle of the bay at the end of the 15th century), Church of Our Lady of Grace (located in the very center of the old village, facing the land – Upper Gates, built in 1650), upper gates (once an entrance and an exit from the fortified Sukosan , contains the remains of the defense walls), Zmajevici emblem (placed on a building named “Biskupija”) and numerous other cultural monuments. Sukosan is famous for its beautiful beaches and covert coves, as well. Some of the beaches are: “Djecji raj” beach”, “Makarska” beach and “Zlatna Luka” beach. Sukosan offers a variety of possibilities for those who wish to enrich their vacation with some other activities. Active vacation fans can enjoy volleyball, basketball, football, tennis, hiking, cycling, bowling, windsurfing, rafting, diving, fishing, paintball and numerous other activities. ZADAR
Dalmatian Pearl
Zadar is the second-largest city in Dalmatia. This former capital of Dalmatia, is the administrative, economic, cultural and political centre of Zadar county today, and is accessible by air from various European countries. Its beauty, diverse tourism opportunities, rich cultural and historical heritage, and recent original architectural innovations attract an ever-increasing number of tourists.
The city of Zadar is at the heart of its riviera, and a walk through its Old Town, on the peninsula, can be best described as a visit to an outdoor museum. 3000 years old, Zadar has amassed the cultural wealth of diverse historical periods, from the remains of a Roman Forum, the city’s symbol, the Romanesque church of St. Donatus, and the sixteenth-century curtain walls, to the latest installations – the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun, which create an incredible visual and sound experience right on the promenade.
The Zadar Riviera
North Adriatic coast
The Zadar Riviera is situated in the north of Dalmatia. Old culture-rich towns trade places with newly developed areas, strung along this beautiful stretch of the Adriatic coast. Seeing as how Zadar is surrounded with as many as five National parks and two natural reserves, visitors are certain to be awed by the natural sights, while man-made sights can likewise hardly fail to impress.
The latter are particularly prominent at the prehistorical site of Vinjerac, as well as Ždrijac, the most Croatian pre-Christian burial site. The town of Nin has also had a storied history as the Croatian kings’ first capital. Nearby Bibinje also has remains of the former royal holdings.
In Privlaka on the Zadar Riviera, visitors are introduced to the tradition of ludra or “driving the fish crazy”, sand excavation which has been the basis of local economy for centuries, and the story of the Sokolar wellspring, named after a mythical tragic romance. In Sukošan, a swim through the Golden Harbor’s clear waters takes one to an artificial island, where the remains of a fifteenth-century manor can be seen.
